In September of 1982 Swindon was hit by the visits of two of the top radio 1 presenters. Peter Powell visited the newly opened Carrefour in West Swindon for a trolly dash and meet the Sea Cadets on 14th September. Kid Jensen was seen on a Donkey at a Donkey Derby on 11th September.

Lined up in Swindon Station about 1975 are the prototype HST and APT. Apparently the prototype APT was tried out on the Great Western Main Line, and achieved a new British railway speed record on 10 August 1975 when it hit 152.3 mph (245.1 km/h) whilst on test with the Western Region between Swindon and Reading.
