It may only small and situated in a woodland setting, but Swindon’s newest extension to its rail network is perfectly formed, and is open for business. Almost 400 people queued for hours outside Waterstone’s in the Brunel Centre to to get their hands on the new Harry Potter book the Cursed Child. One lade even traveled from London because Swindon was open at Midnight. Gallery:

BBC film Street Auction in Toothill.
A BBC film crew took over an area of Toothill for a street auction to raise money for a Jacky Parry who is a charity champion in the community. The programme, fronted by auctioneer Paul Martin and Danny Sebastian will air in September. Gallery: Pictures by Richard Wintle and Rachel Davis.

Rare Thumper DMU gutted in arson attack.
A very rare diesel locomotive was burnt out in an arson attack on the Swindon & Cricklade Railway in Wiltshire. One of only three left, the DMU (diesel multiple unit) ‘Thumper’ unit owned by Swindon and Cricklade Railway was parked up near the Hayes Knoll sheds at the end of the main line when the

Thamesdown Transport name buses.
Thamesdown Transport took over the front of STEAM Museum to name four buses as the famous Swindon hooter sounded. The buses carried the destination board of Swindon 175. The naming was part of the Swindon 175 celebrations. Gallery.
