For a long time I thought that I had pictured the Link Centre being built. Recently I have undertaken the mammoth task of putting my archive onto a data base, and during that I found some negatives of “West Swindon Sports Hub” being built. No wonder I couldn’t find them!

In September of 1982 Swindon was hit by the visits of two of the top radio 1 presenters. Peter Powell visited the newly opened Carrefour in West Swindon for a trolly dash and meet the Sea Cadets on 14th September. Kid Jensen was seen on a Donkey at a Donkey Derby on 11th September.

Diana Dors, the sixties icon of Swindon still has a presence in the town, albeit in bronze. At the Cinema complex at Shaw Ridge there stands a statue to the Swindon Girl, Diana Fluck, from Marlborough Road in old Town. It arrived standing upright on the bed of a lorry and was hoisted into position
