Some of the highlights of the year that Calyx Picture Agency has covered.
Aircraft played a big part in the year with local Red Arrows official artist, David Bent, having his book presented to Prince Charles at the Royal International Air Tattoo in July.:
The RIAT event provided a couple of static aircraft pictures as well:
Aircraft tails were in fashion as the new Wiltshire Air Ambulance took to the skies above Wiltshire for the first time as it flew over Coate Water on its way to GWH for the first time.
Moving planes were a bit slower than expected! “There’s a porpoise behind me and he is treading on my tail.” (Miss quote from Alice in Wonderland) as an Airbus was moved from Kemble and AMS showed how it was done.
Feeling as though you could fly must have been the emotions felt by the A Level students at New College when they saw their results.
Selfies were the ‘In Thing’ during the year as several high profile visitors were seen locally joining in the craze.
Boris was seen at Nationwide.
And Tracey Thorne (one half of Everything But The Girl pop duo) was snapped during the Festival of Literature.
Zara Phillips and baby Mia at were at Barbury Castle for the equestrian weekend.
Other Royals popped in the the town during the year too.
Prince Andrew paid 2 visits to the UTC. First to look at the projects progress..
Prince Edward visited the Science Museum:
And the Duke of Kent was at Swindon 105.5 (Pic Chloe Leadbeater)
Pop Royalty turned out in the form of Peter Andre visiting the Brunel Centre.
and Liz Hurley to open a Crèche
And of course Pantomime With Nigel Havers as King Rat and Linda Lusardi’s Daughter Luck Kane.
It’s always a pantomime with Sue Pollard.
One student from, Hogwarts, Georgina Leonidas, played at the Wyvern.
As we are among the cloisters The Archbishop of Canterbury visited Lydiard and the Bios Van mobile youth club at Pinehurst.
The DeputyPrime Minister Nick Clegg visited Wichelstowe
And Ed Miliband Leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition visited Tetronics.
And there was an election too, although there seemed little interest in the result.
WW1 and WW2 were remembered during the year.
In commemoration
Turner’s were shown at the Museum
And Tanwood turned 70
Regent Circus opened.
The Police were busy too.
Arrest in Rodbourne Cheney and a house searched in Nythe.
Christmas babies and lovely ladies lightened the year
With an element of slapstick thrown in.
At the end of the day charities smiled too.
Oh and there was some sport as well
Swindon Town scored one over on Bristol City.
While Supermarine won’t be sitting it out under their new coach.
Höög returned to give Wildcats there best winning streak although the odd fight did help.
Swindon Dolphins were champions of their Water Polo league
While the ladies did well at football there was the odd slip up on the way,
the Cheerleaders showed off their pyramid.
But Who did the Roller Derby get to give some extra help with their win at the Oasis.
Here ends the high flying year 2014, I hope it has been as good for you as for me and
I want to wish all followers and friends a very happy and busy new year.
Richard
